This was the second to last shop we hit out of five and I was feeling buoyed by the fact that I'd just found an awesome jacket for $10.00. This particular shop had six quad crates full of records. The theme of the day was definitely James Last, Kahmal, Richard Clayderman and some guy called Bobby Crush.
Amongst the trash I picked up these:
Louis Armstrong - Greatest Hits
Satchmo records don't usually interest me. I have a 7" of 'Hello Dolly' and the 'Ambassador Satch' album and I think that's all his best stuff covered. But this had 'Mack The Knife' on it which I don't think I have. So I picked it up for shits and giggles.
John Prine - John Prine
Sometimes I'll pick something up like this because it looks like it's made in about 1976/77 and they liked to put drum breaks in and around some Country songs back then. So I picked it up with the hope that I'd strike pay dirt. Unfortunately this one fell short and was full of pretty whiney Country. Not a fan.
John Prine - Diamonds In The Rough
Same as above really apart from the fact that this has a really beautiful accapella song on side two. Not a total waste of time but there's not much else to gush about on this album.
Jilted John - True Love
The guy on the back of this album looks like a complete douche bag but I picked it up for the front cover. Anything with comic book art like this has to be cool right? Maybe to someone who likes this sort of thing. If you like the Neil from The Young Ones album, you'll probably find merit in this. Not me though, I couldn't even get through side two.
Various - 1982 With A Bullet
Ahhhh 1982. Great year that. Most of the songs on here are B sides and album cuts. I'd be pretty disappointed if I picked this up in 1982. But I thought I'd give it a crack. The best thing about it for me was that it made me realise that The Stranglers 'Golden Brown' is a jam! It sounds like it's from 70's though. Colour me confused.
So there you have it. I was feeling pretty happy with myself by this stage. We had just one opp shop to look at before 4:00pm and we had to race across town to get to it. I'll show you what I got on Wednesday.
